Athens Clarke County Leisure Services Arts Division is pleased to announce "Arts Summit 2022" to take place at the Morton Theatre in downtown Athens GA. The Arts Summit advocates, educates, and elevates local artists and creatives through career development and professional practices.

A special keynote speaker, Charmaine Minniefield, who will give a presentation Friday, August 5 at 6:30 pm, kicks off this event. Doors open at 6:00 pm. This is a free event open to the public.

Charmaine Minniefield's creative practice is community-based as her research and resulting bodies of work often draw from public archives as she excavates the stories of African American women-led resistance, spirituality and power. Minniefield recently served as the Stuart A. Rose Library artist-in-residence at Emory University and through a collaboration with Flux Projects presented her work "Remembrance as Resistance: Preserving Black Narratives" in Atlanta's historically segregated cemetery to honor the over 800 unmarked graves discovered in the African American Burial Grounds. She was recently awarded a National Endowment of the Arts Our Town Grant to present her Praise House Project in three locations in the metro Atlanta area to celebrate the African American history of those communities.

Arts Summit 2022 continues on Saturday, August 6 at 10:00 am at the Morton Theatre with a day of panels, lectures and sessions designed to educate and encourage professional advancement in the creative arts field. Highlights will include a panel Finding Funding with speakers from local, statewide and regional grant agencies, sessions on Licensing Your Art for Film and TV in the entertainment environment, a workshop on the how to's of ACC Public Art Proposals and others. Saturday is free but registration is required.

The ACC Arts Division provides citizens and visitors with a relevant, enriching and inclusive experience in the arts, encouraging all to foster a deep appreciation of our shared creative culture. The Arts Division consists of three unique community venues and four central programming areas; visual, theatrical, musical and dance.

The Arts Summit 2022 is made possible through support from the Classic Center Cultural Foundation, Athens Downtown Development Authority, Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, and ACC Leisure Services Department.
