Dear ICE colleagues;
David Saltz, Bala Sarasvati and I having been working on the
to bring Jaron Lanier for the ICE summit. As a pioneer of virtual
reality and inventor, muscisian and artist, I think he is perfect to
kick off the summit. Scientific America published an interview you may
enjoy at http://www.sciam.com/interview/lanier.html
The total budget for Lanier is $ 9,300 which ICE will provide $ 5,000.
In addition, I am very pleased to announce that the Center for
Humanities and Art has supported us in the amount of $ 3,000 our
bringing Jaron Lanier to campus to kick off the ICE Summit on April 25,
2001. At this time, I would also appreciate if you could seek some
additional funds from your respective departments for the summit.
We have booked the university chapel that seats 480 for 8PM on
Wednesday April 25th for Lanier talk. At this time I would like you to
start talking it up big time !! I will be in Chicago until the next
Monday. In the meantime if you have questions you may want to e-mail
David Saltz. Talk to you soon.
Cheers Carmon
