Dear ICE colleagues:

This is a quick update to get some dates on your calendars.

We had a very productive meeting this morning ( 1/9/01). Both
the planning and project commitees met together today and agreed that
we will hold the ICE retreat at the Alumni Center in Atlanta on Friday
February 16, 2001 starting 10 AM and ending with an evening dinner.
This will give us an undistracted planning session away from the every
day hustle and bustle as well as utilize this location and facility to
establish a presence in Atlanta. More details will be given at a later
date.

Secondly, we agreed to hold the ICE summit that will include
guest speakers, special events, performances and ICE planning
sessions. It will be begin on the evening of Wed. April 25 and
run through Friday April 27. This will lead into the Twighlight
Criterium ( 60 km bike race with 125 cyclists ) and our events will be
coordinated with this event as well as with a collaborative project at
the GMOA that Stephen Corey discussed on April 25, 2001. More info
will follow on this too.

For the summit various leading artists and performers, specialists in
collaborative art and technology were discussed. George Lewis, an
interactive Jazz musician and George Coates ( David Saltz will need to
give you his credentials ) will be the first to be invited to
participate. Jeffery Shaw of the Inst. of Visual Media at ZKM Center,
in Germany and creator of Legible cities and Peter Lunefield,
author/artist of The Digital Dialectic : New Essays on New Media and
Snap to Grid: A User's Guide to Digital Arts, Media, and Cultures, will
also be approached. These people would get travel and honorarium to be
determined.

Also, Troika Ranch, Ben Davis, Senior Scientist and artist at
Razorfish, California, Sara Diamond, Director of the New Media
Institute, Banff Centreof Fine Arts, Elise Bernhardt, Director of The
Kitchen, Steve Murakishi, Cranbrook Academy of Art will all be invited
as participants potential partners of ICE. ( I know I have missed
some others here but several ICE committee members will be
submitting more names to David Saltz.)

The WEB site was also discussed. Lanny Webb, David Koffman and Carl
Martin will spearhead this effort and report in the next week or two
on the plans for the web.

Bala Sarasvati's proposal for an Inter-artist/science collaboration
to create multimedia performance based on "Waters of Georgia" for the
CORE Concert Dance Company's 10 Anniversary Celebration Concert
March 27-31, 2001 will be given support at $ 4,000. This will involve
Dance, Music, Drama and Art students and faculty.

The Snowman project and concept, which will be a future collaborative
was briefly discussed. The project committee will discuss this and
report to the entire group in the near future. In the meantime they
will also consider seed funding for "incubating" start up
collaborations or to further existing projects that might begin late
spring early summer. Team taught courses and proposals will also be
discussed in the weeks ahead for 2001-02.

That's all for now as I am off to deliver my exhibition at University
of Chapel Hill North Carolina, possibly through the snow !

Thanks Carmon
