8. Flux Night
Saturday, October 5
Atlanta
http://www.fluxprojects.org/flux-night

"Detritus" by Eric Marty and Kai Riedl
7 pm
Castleberry Hill Arts District, Atlanta

Site-specific sound and light installation
Commissioned by Flux Projects

"Detritus" explores the concept of surveillance, urban decay and renewal, and the loss and
construction of identity in the anonymous urban landscape. "Detritus" is a sound and light
installation lining Walker Street between Haynes and Nelson. Searchlights troll the tree-lined
street. Cars are heard rushing past, trailing a wake of windblown debris that catches up lights and
voices. The detritus settles restlessly into the trees among avian scavengers.

"Detritus" is a part of Flux Night, an annual night of art + experimentation. Flux night returns to
the Castleberry Hill Arts District on Saturday, October 5. This year's event is curated by
internationally respected curator and critic Helena Reckitt. Reckitt's curatorial theme, Free
Association, evokes the pleasure of mixing and mingling at street level that is central to Flux
Night, and that car-centric Atlanta does not always afford. It also points to the strong history of
digital art and collective activity within the city.

Flux Night 2013 will have two categories of projects: curated projects selected directly by Reckitt
and proposed projects selected from an open call for proposals by a committee that will include
Reckitt along with Flux Projects staff and board.

9. ICE-Vision: After the Wedding (Susanne Bier, 2006)
Tuesday, October 8 at 5:30 PM
Lamar Dodd School of Art Room S150
http://www.facebook.com/groups/120740834290/

ICE-Vision continues with Film Studies and English major Dafna Kaufman's selections of great films
that may be forgotten by the general public, but can be remembered and cherished through
viewings today.

Susanne Bier's 2006 Danish masterpiece examines the dynamics of family life and human
idiosyncrasies. With a dark and passionate center, After the Wedding also erupts with vitality and
joy. With breathtaking central performances, After the Wedding shows the viewer how a traditional
plot can be turned on its head. Oscar nominated and widely acclaimed, Bier's film strikes
emotionally and stimulates intellectually.
