Dear ICE Colleagues: I would to encourage you to attend and encourage
your students to attend, the UGA Department of Dance presents CORE
Concert Dance CompanyâA Spring Collection 2002, March 6-9 at 8:00 p.m.,
held in the New Dance Theatre, Dance Building on Sanford Drive.  For
tickets call or visit the Tate Student Center Ticket Counter, 542-8074,
M-F, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.  Prices are $8 student/senior citizen, $12
adult and all seating is general admission.

Support for this production was provided by UGA Department of  Student
Activities, Center for Humanities and Arts, College of Education, Ideas
for Creative Exploration (ICE) and the FRIENDS OF DANCE.

CORE Concert Dance Company

We are pleased to present Tensile Involvement, staged by UGA Center for
Humanities and Arts 2001 International Guest Artist Alberto del Saz,
Co-Artistic Director of the internationally acclaimed Alwin
Nikolais/Murray Louis Dance Company of New York City.  A signature work
of choreographer Alwin Nikolais, Tensile Involvement was performed at
the Kennedy Center in 1987 when he received the National Medal of Arts
from President Reagan. This historically significant work was first
performed at the Henry Street Playhouse in New York City in 1953 and
continues to be performed throughout the world.  Karen Eliot, CHA 2002
Visiting Lecturer, former dancer of the internationally acclaimed Merce
Cunningham Dance Company will premiere COREvent #1 and #2. Ms. Eliot
brings her expertise to present the authentic choreographic approach
and movement style originated by Merce Cunningham, also a recipient of
the National Medal of Arts, is considered a major innovator of American
modern dance in the 20th Century. Susan Murphy, director of Canopy,
will present an exquisite aerial trapeze solo performed by Meaghan
Muller.  Kora Radella, will premiere a work performed by VERGE Modern
Dance Company.  Live music by Arvin Scott, from his latest CD release.
EASTWINDS, is an interdisciplinary work comprising the second half of
the program, choreographed by  artistic director, Bala Sarasvati. The
piece was created in the company’s attempt to comprehend and reflect
the events of 2001. The work is enhanced through a live interactive
sound installation by Leonard V. Ball, Jr., Director of the Roger and
Phyllis Dancz Center for New Music, digital rendering by Michael
Oliveri, Chair of the Department of Digital Media at the Lamar Dodd
School of Art and a solo performed by Rebecca Enghauser, former dancer
of Garth Fagan Dance Company and faculty member of UGA Department of
Dance.
