1. NEW YORK PAINTINGS 2006-2009 Selected Works by James Herbert Gallery 101, Lamar Dodd
School of Art Reception: January 8 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

James Herbert has work in the permanent collections of the MoMA, Whitney, Walker, and the
Pompidou; and has shown in two Whitney Biennials and P.S.1.

He has received two Guggenheims (one juried and supported by Jasper Johns), a Tiffany, Gottlieb,
and 3 NEA Senior painting grants. His work has been collected by Martin Scorcese, Gus Van Sant,
Larry Clark, Michael Stipe, Elton John, Coca-Cola, and NationsBank.

Currently living and painting in NYC, James Herbert is Professor Emeritus of Drawing and Painting
at The University of Georgia, where he taught from 1962 to 2006.

2. ATHICA: Athens Institute for Contemporary Art

We are excited to be bringing you Nurture: Video and Photography by Amy Jenkins, our first
exhibit to focus on the personal yet universal issues of breast-feeding, parenting and childhood. It
is also our first large-scale video-art exhibit, and the ATHICA space has been transformed in
order to accommodate the Jenkins' stunning large scale video art.

This is New Hampshire-based Jenkins first solo exhibition south of Kentucky, which follows two
decades of the artist's exhibitions at national and international museums and galleries.

3. Terrance Hayes Poetry Reading
Thursday, January 14 (07:30 PM)
Cine, downtown Athens

Award-winning poet Terrance Hayes will read from his work at Cine BarCafeCinema 235 West
Hancock Ave. in Athens. The event, sponsored by the UGA Creative Writing Program, is free and
open to the public.

Hayes is the author of Wind in a Box (Penguin, 2006), named one of the best 100 books of 2006
by Publishers Weekly, Hip LogicMuscular Music (1999), winner of the Kate Tufts Discovery Award.
Poems in Lighthead, his collection forthcoming from Penguin in 2010, have appeared in The
American Poetry Review, Poetry, and The New Yorker.

The recipient of awards including a Whiting Writers Award, a Pushcart Prize, three Best American
Poetry selections, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and a 2009 Guggenheim
Fellowship, Hayes is professor of creative writing at Carnegie Mellon University and lives in
Pittsburgh, Penn.

4. CURO 2010 Symposium Call for Abstracts
Deadline: January 15, 2010

The Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO) is sponsoring the tenth annual
CURO Symposium on Monday, March 29, 2010, at the Classic Center. The symposium provides a
forum for undergraduates with a 3.4 cumulative grade point average or who participate in a
university-wide undergraduate research program to present original resarch and creative works
sponsored by faculty members. Undergraduate students from all disciplines are encouraged to
participate.

5. Two student actors needed for leading roles in short film. Actors should be comfortable with
improvisation.

In the film, beings called Specters will arrive from the outer spaces to explore the Earth and gain
understanding of human life; however the Specters will be invisible to the humans except for one
young girl with incredible vision, called The Believer, who will establish communication with one of
the Specters.

Looking to cast the following roles: The Believer: A young woman with incredible vision who is
able to see the otherwise unseen Specter The Specter: A masked being (gender neutral) dressed in
white. Note this role has no speaking lines since the voice of the Specter will be composed of
electronic music.

Production is expected to begin immediately and to be completed by the end of the semester.If
