2. Performance: Noa Even
Wednesday, October 30 at 6 PM
Hugh Hodgson School of Music, Dancz Hall Room 264

Cleveland-based saxophonist and Kent State faculty Noa Even explores themes of human connection with "atomic," a commissioning project of four new works for solo saxophone, interactive electronics, and video. The impetus behind "atomic" is the idea that finding or cultivating common ground with individuals from diverse backgrounds leads to greater awareness, understanding, and empathy. In close collaboration with Even, the composers and video artists of "atomic" focus on the following topics: the long-lasting affects of human interactions, the increasingly visible and thriving transgender community in the United States, silenced voices resulting from stricter American immigration laws, and regret, a universal human emotion.

Applications due November 11, 2019 at 9 AM
https://sustainability.uga.edu/student-programs/sustainability-grants/

Ideas for Creative Exploration and the Office of Sustainability invite you to apply for a UGA Campus Sustainability Grant. Special consideration will be given to projects incorporating sustainability + arts.

Drawn from the Student Green Fee, grants up to $5,000 are available to current UGA students who wish to initiate projects to advance sustainability through education, research, service, and campus operations. Successful projects will address priorities outlined in UGA's 2020 Strategic Plan to actively conserve resources, educate the campus community, influence positive action for people and the environment, and provide useful research data to inform future campus sustainability efforts. Interdisciplinary projects designed to inspire, beautify and uplift -- as well as to inform and conserve -- are encouraged. Special consideration will be given to projects incorporating sustainability + arts. Grants are awarded based on merit, positive impact, implementation feasibility, and available funding.

The Office of Sustainability coordinates, communicates, and advances sustainability initiatives at UGA in the areas of teaching, research, service and outreach, student engagement, and campus operations. For more information visit sustainability.uga.edu.

5. Cine & Athica Present: Monster Drawing Rally
Saturday, November 2 from 10 AM - 3 PM
Cine, 234 W. Hancock Ave.
https://www.athenscine.com/MDR

Cine and ATHICA are joining forces to host this Monster (as in "REALLY BIG") fundraising event in which over 60 artists produce works in front of a live audience, which are then immediately donated and made available for sale to the attendees.

A unique mix of live performance, art sale, and art party, the Monster Drawing Rally gives all involved the chance to see art-making in action; connect with local artists; mingle with friends; and buy the finished works at the low price of $60 each as they are created and posted on the buy wall.

At the time of this press release, confirmed participating artists include Art Rosenbaum, Lou Kregel, Amanda Burk, Jim Barsness, Camille Hayes, Will Eskridge, John Cleaveland, Susan Hable, Stan Mullins, Ray Lee, and Michael Lachowski. More artists are signing up every day. The event will feature MC Didi Dunphy of the Lyndon House Arts Center and local favorite DJ Mahogany to provide musical inspiration.

Bloody Marys and snacks will be available for purchase. Tickets will be available at the door on the day of the event for $10.00; kids get in free. Vintage cartoons will play in one of the Cine theatres throughout the event as alternative fun for kids. Attendees will be able to buy original art works produced by local artists during hour-long art-making rounds. The artists for each round will be announced in mid-October so that attendees can plan their strategy.

The proposed schedule starts at 10:00, with three rounds of art-making and ongoing sales (10-11am; 11:15am-12:15pm; and 12:30- 1:30pm) with a final half-price sale starting at 1:45pm. Multiple buyers vying for the same piece will draw the high-card from the deck to win the right to purchase.

Proceeds from the event provide direct support for both Cin• and ATHICA programs. Event co-chair Lauren Fancher suggests that Athenians "Think of it as BOGO for supporting the arts in Athens," adding, "This Monster Drawing Rally is a great way to have fun, pick up some great local art, and support both organizations at the same time. We hope everyone will get on board with this worthwhile and important event to help generate funds to support these crucial, independent, non-profit arts organizations that add so much to the creative culture in Athens."
