3. ICE-Vision: She Works, She Lives!, The Carlyle Group Exposed
Wednesday, October 15
8:00 PM Lamar Dodd School of Art Room S150

ICE-Vision returns with a series of informal screenings on Wednesday nights in the auditorium of
the new Lamar Dodd School of Art (first floor, room S150). BFA candidates Ash Sechler, Daniel
Osborne, and Eddie Whelan select titles touching upon culture, science, and art. This week's
selection is:

She Works, She Lives! ("Elle Travaille, Elle Vit!" 2008, 38min)

A documentary that explores the role of women in Senegalese society and highlights the
importance of girl's education in particular. Each of the five Senegalese women interviewed for the
film come from diverse backgrounds and followed distinct paths to get to where they are today.
Some of them come from small villages while others come from urban environments, some from
supportive families and others from less supportive families. But at some point in their lives, each
of these five women realized that she had the potential to be more and to achieve more than what
was expected of her. This documentary looks at the histories of these inspiring women, the
feelings they have about their work and their upbringing, and their hopes for the future of women
in Senegal. The film was made by Emerson graduate, Barry Pousman, who returned this week, after
working for 3 years in Senegal for the Peace Corps.

The Iron Triangle- The Carlyle Group Exposed (2006, 48min)

The Bush family, the Saudi Royal family, Osama Bin Laden's family and Donald Rumsfeld's inner
circle - these are just some of the high profile figures who have played a direct role in the rise of
one of the most powerful and influential and secretive firms in Washington. The company is called
The Carlyle Group. And in the wake of the events of September 11th and the invasion of Iraq, its
power and influence have become significantly stronger. The company operates within the so-
called iron-triangle of industry, government and the military. Its list of former and current
advisers and associates includes a vast array of some of the most powerful men in America and
indeed around the world. This program exposes the history of the Carlyle Group, from it's
inception as a private equity firm to it's present status as one of the largest defense contractors in
the world.
