7. Ecologies of Meaning in Art, Science & Technology Collaborations
Wednesday, January 19 at 3 PM
https://creative-capital.org/events/ecologies-of-meaning-in-art-science-technology-collaborations/

For this live-streamed event, transdisciplinary artist Erika Blumenfeld will moderate a conversation with transmedia artist Stephanie Dinkins (2019 Creative Capital Awardee), environmental artist Xavier Cortada, and Monica Bello, head curator at Arts at CERN (European Laboratory for Particle Physics). Each will share brief presentations about their respective work across art, science and technology, and discuss the perceived boundaries, entanglements, and kinships of these fields. Together they will consider the contributions artists can make in collaborations with the sciences, and whether novel ethical frameworks can evolve from meaning-making across disciplines. The conversation will include audience Q&A via YouTube chat.

Creative Capital is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to fund artists in the creation of groundbreaking new work in the visual arts, performing arts, literature, film, technology, and multidisciplinary practices, including socially-engaged work in all forms. Our pioneering model of grantmaking also provides thousands of artists with scaffolding and infrastructure support via professional development programs, networking opportunities, and educational resources.

8. Ground Works Call for Submissions
https://groundworks.io/proposals/1/home_show

The Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (a2ru) issues a call for submissions to its online peer-reviewed collection of interdisciplinary arts projects, Ground Works.

We welcome submissions that integrate research and practice in the fine, performing, and applied arts and design with other disciplines. We seek a wide range of interdisciplinary works that pose a challenge to traditional peer review methods by inviting examination from multiple disciplinary perspectives. Eligible projects have achieved some initial recognition; they may be collaborative or sole-author, but should demonstrably advance multiple fields within and beyond the arts.

9. Athens Cultural Affairs Commission Arts in Community Awards
Deadline: Friday, December 17
https://www.athensculturalaffairs.org/call-for-proposals-arts-in-community-awards-fall-2021-athens-in-color/

To promote creative place-making in our community, the Athens Cultural Affairs Commission (ACAC) invites local organizations, groups, and artists to apply for the Fall 2021 Arts in Community Awards (AICA) to support a public art project, event, or art activity in Athens-Clarke County that contributes to the vitality, unique identity, and livability of the Athens community.

Two awards at $2,000 each will be issued to fund proposals for public art projects, events, or activities (herein referred to as "projects") that interpret the theme of "Athens in Color" and contribute to the vitality, unique identity, and livability of the Athens community. "Color" is interpreted across most art forms, from painting to literature and music. Color, too, is often associated with life, vitality, and nature. After a uniquely challenging year for communities around the world, the ACAC seeks proposals on the theme of "Athens in Color": celebrations, reflections, and other interpretations of Athens, Georgia through art.

10. Elsewhere Museum Call for Artists In Residence
Deadline: Monday January 3
https://www.elsewheremuseum.org/residencies-2022

Foundational Residencies

This is the original residency experience of coming to Elsewhere to become immersed in our world of things. Open to all artists around the globe who are 18 or older. Foundational Residencies are typically 26 days (arrive on a Thursday, leave on a Tuesday, with three FULL weeks in between), but they offer the flexibility to do shorter 2-3 week research residencies that are less focused on producing finished works. Proposals for longer residencies will also be considered.

The Southern Constellations Fellowship is an annual, curated residency program that explores experimental practices across a network of Southern artists and organizations.

The Collaborative Family Residency invites four families to create as collaborative units, with each family member of different ages and abilities participating in the residency. Artists collaborate with their child(ren), parent(s), sibling(s), or chosen family.

For 2022, Elsewhere has eliminated residency fees that have been associated with participating in its Foundational Residency. Historically artists paid up to $1,050 in program and room/board fees, which represented about one fourth of the cost per resident and was still modest compared to other residency programs. Eliminating these fees was an important step to making residencies more financially accessible to artists, with the longer term goal to be able to pay every artist to participate. It is part of the organization's equity plan that also includes efforts to become W.A.G.E. (wageforwork.com) certified, a voluntary commitment to meeting field-wide equitable artist pay standards. Additionally, Elsewhere has created an Artist In Residence Financial Assistance Fund that anyone can contribute to directly in order to enable participation from artists who face additional financial barriers.
