1. There was a strong turnout for the information session on Mathematics and Visualization last
week at ICE. Details regarding the application process follow:

Deadline: Monday, March 1, 2004

Requirements: Two letters of recommendation, copy of transcript (unofficial copy is OK),
statement of purpose, description or sample of work.

Deliver to: Jennifer Peterson, Boyd Hall, 4th floor, Math Department, CAMPUS

Number of students: 6-8 undergraduate, 2 graduate

2. CURO and the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR)will sponsor five CURO OVPR
2004 Summer Research Fellowships.

Successful applicants will each receive a financial award of $2,500.00. In order to apply, a student
should submit by March 31, 2004, a letter of interest with pertinent information regarding how
the summer research fellowship will advance your education and career to Dr. Pamela B. Kleiber,
Associate Director of the Honors Program and CURO Coordinator, 203 Moore College. Please
include a current transcript. A research proposal of no more than one page and a letter of support
from a University of Georgia faculty member are required to complete the application.

ALL UGA students with a minimum 3.4 gpa with at least 30 UGA hours may apply. Students who
are not in the Honors Program will be eligible for Honors research courses.

The recipient is expected to spend appproximately 40 hours per week for 8-10 weeks conducting
research and will be expected to do the following:

1. Enroll in any two sequential Honors undergraduate research courses: HONS 4960H and HONS
4970H. In order to receive credit in the major, students should also complete departmental
requirements and approval. Students must register for these classes before they are eligible to
receive a Fellowship. If, during the course of the Fellowship, the student withdraws from these
classes for any reason, the stipend must be returned in full.

2. By the last day of classes of the summer semester, submit an abstract of the summer research
to Dr. Pamela Kleiber for review for the annual statewide CURO Symposium.

3. Participate in a panel discussion at the Undergraduate Research Forum and other presentations
on undergraduate research opportunities at UGA with the CURO Coordinator.
