4. Call for volunteers

The Miller Learning Center and visual artist Patricia Van Dalen are jointly seeking volunteers to help
with her art installation at the MLC in January 2011. Volunteers will assist the artist in "drawing"
on the walls of the MLC with variously-colored lines of tapes. This installation promises to gain a
lot of attention in addition to being a great opportunity to work closely with an internationally-
exhibiting professional artist.

When: January 18th to January 21st.
Where: Miller Learning Center, 3rd floor.
What: Tasks include tape handling, cutting, and placing tapes on the walls
Hours: Shifts of two hours, anytime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Contact: Caroline Barratt at [log in to unmask] or 706-542-6196

Patricia Van Dalen is a South American artist with a career focused on abstract art with an
emphasis on color and interventions into large architectural spaces. She has exhibited widely in
South America, in Spain and in the US. Van Dalen's current research concerns the theme of
fragmentation: of image, of the painting, of form, of space, of plane, and of color. This project will
be a unique artwork created especially for the MLC. You can check out the artist's work at her
website www.patriciavandalen.com

If you are interested in getting involved in the creation of an exciting, colorful and dynamic
ephemeral artwork, working side-by-side with the artist herself, please contact Caroline Barratt,
MLC Director at [log in to unmask], indicating the times when you are available. We will be happy to
answer any questions you may have.

6. NMI Orientation Sessions
Wednesday, January 19 and Thursday, January 20 at 6:15 PM

Do you or someone you know want to get the New Media Interdisciplinary Certificate
(http://mynmi.net/students/new-media-certificate/)? If you/they are smart (and of course
you/they are) then of course you/they do. To find out how you can get the Certificate, you need to
attend one of our Orientation sessions. This semester they are in the NMI (4th floor of
Journalism)at 6:15P on Wednesday (1/19) and Thursday (1/20). You only need to attend one of the
sessions. And if you have attended one in the past you don't need to come to another one --
unless you have a question. Orientation sessions are great for questions and issues. You also
need to register for one of the sessions -- do that here -- http://mynmi.net/students/new-
media-certificate/certificate-orientation-sessions/. And remember, you can't register for any
upper division (>4000) until you have attended an orientation.
