1. Lecture: Charlie Chaplin as Avant-garde Icon

Miller Learning Center, Room 248

Dr. Przemyslaw Strozek of the Art Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences will lecture on
"Charlie Chaplin as Avant-garde Icon." Dr. Strozek is currently a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow at
UGA. He is the author of numerous articles and public lectures on avant-garde art and popular
culture (cinema, soccer, and jazz in particular), including contributions to such books as Oxford
Critical and Cultural History of Modernist Magazines (2013), Afromodernisms (2013), International
Futurism (2012), and International Yearbook of Futurism Studies (2011). The event, free and open
to the public, is part of the Seminars on Modernism coordinated by Dr. Jed Rasula with support
from the Lanier Speakers Series and the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts.

Willson Center Graduate Research Award
Deadline January 14

The Willson Center Graduate Research Award provides support of up to $1,250 to arts and
humanities graduate students for relevant expenses related to completion of their degrees.
Graduate students may be supported in travel to archives, installations and performances. Reason
must be given for support of the proposed activity in context of research excellence.

Willson Center Distinguished Artist or Lecturer
Deadline: February 4

The Willson Center Distinguished Artist or Lecturer program supports individual faculty or
interdisciplinary groups in bringing leading thinkers and practitioners to campus in support of
ongoing and innovative research projects. The program provides a $1,500 honorarium out of
which the artist or lecturer pays his or her travel expenses. Distinguished artists and lecturers are
nominated by the faculty and are selected by the Willson Center's Academic Advisory Board. Faculty
are encouraged to conceive of this program as an opportunity to create broader impacts that
include engagement with the student body, the public, the locality and state.

Willson Center Research Seminar
Deadline February 4

The Willson Center Research Seminar Program provides $2,000 to faculty organizing year-long
interdisciplinary discussion groups on particular research topics. The funds are to be used to bring
to campus scholars from other institutions.

3. CURO Summer Fellowships
Deadline: February 15

CURO is currently accepting proposals for the 2013 CURO Summer Fellowships. These competitive
fellowships award funding to academically talented undergraduates for intensive, faculty-guided
research experiences. Each Fellow receives $3000 in funding (not including standard payroll
deductions); six hours of academic credit through two CURO Research Courses; and acceptance to
the following year's CURO Symposium.
