3. Willson Center Grants
Deadline: February 17
https://willson.uga.edu/opportunities/fellowships-grants/willson-grants-awards/

The Willson Center Distinguished Artist or Lecturer program supports individual faculty or interdisciplinary groups in bringing leading thinkers and practitioners to campus in support of ongoing and innovative research projects. The program provides a $1,500 honorarium out of which the artist or lecturer pays his or her travel expenses. Distinguished artists and lecturers are nominated by the faculty and are selected by the Willson Center's Academic Advisory Board. Faculty are encouraged to conceive of this program as an opportunity to create broader impacts that include engagement with the student body, the public, the locality and state.

The Willson Center Graduate Research Award provides support of up to $1,250 toward research-related expenses for arts and humanities projects that are essential components of a graduate degree program. Applicants should explain the importance of their proposed activity and justify it within their field(s) of study in a context of research excellence. The Willson Center is particularly interested in fostering interdisciplinary research at the graduate level.

Friday, Jan. 24

11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Jackson Street Building, Room 130 (Critique Space)
285 South Jackson Street, Athens, GA 30602

UGA Innovation District's "Startup 101" is a three-part series that addresses the varying skills and information entrepreneurs will need on their journey to create a startup company. Anyone interested in launching or growing a startup, or gaining insight into the startup process, is encouraged to attend.

The Startup 101 program on Jan. 10 will explore intellectual property (IP) and the technology transfer process at UGA. Matt Warenzak, a partner in the intellectual property practice in the Atlanta office of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP., will present an introduction to IP law.

Matt's presentation will be followed by a talk featuring Cheryl Junker, Innovation Gateway licensing manager, and Dan Geller, a UGA faculty inventor. Cheryl and Dan will present a real-world case study outlining the licensing process used at UGA to help bring the EcoGreen Charcoal Lighter to the marketplace.

The event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided to those who register.

6. Call for Submissions: a2ru Ground Works
Priority date for submissions is February 28, 2020
http://groundworks.io

The Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (a2ru) issues a call for submissions to its online peer-reviewed collection of interdisciplinary arts projects, Ground Works.

We welcome submissions that integrate research and practice in the fine, performing, and applied arts and design with other disciplines. We seek a wide range of interdisciplinary works that pose a challenge to traditional peer review methods by inviting examination from multiple disciplinary perspectives. Eligible projects have achieved some initial recognition; they may be collaborative or sole-author, but should demonstrably advance multiple fields within and beyond the arts.
