The DSSAT Canegro Validation Workshop will be held from 6 to 9 August 2007 at Mount Edgecombe, South Africa under the auspices of the International Consortium for Sugarcane Modelling (ICSM).

Venue
Crystal room, SASRI, Mount Edgecombe

Trainers
Prof Jim Jones, Prof Gerrit Hoogenboom, Mr. Matthew Jones

Program
6 and 7 August 2007: Open session
The training aims to give delegates:
(1)a basic understanding of DSSAT and of how models work,
(2)a basic understanding of the Canegro sugarcane model,
(3)the ability to set up and execute a Canegro run and interpret its results, and
(4)a basic understanding of the model validation process within DSSAT and data requirements.

8 and 9 August 2007: Closed session
Hands-on Canegro model calibration/validation using actual data sets submitted by participants. The aim is to enable participants to:
(1)import sugarcane data from field experiments into DSSAT,
(2)set up and execute validation run,
(3)compare simulated and measured data,
(4)identify and rectify data problems and simulation discrepancies, and
(5)iteratively adjust model parameters and review simulation results.
By the end of the workshop, participants should have a working Canegro model within the DSSAT framework on their laptop, set up to provide reasonable simulation of local experiments.

Registration
We invite further registration from ICSM members (US$25) as well as other interested persons (US$100 plus optional DSSAT license fee) for the open session.
Registration for the closed session has closed.
