Dear colleagues:

The EU-supported proposal AGRIDEMA has already started its first international activities. AGRIDEMA is aimed to encourage local applications of climate and crop-growth simulation tools to support agricultural decision-making, under current variable-climate conditions.

Some Courses on updated climate and crop-growth models will be held in Vienna, Austria, from November 21 to December 2. The courses comprise Regional outputs of Global Circulation Models, Seasonal forecasts and weather generators. Furthermore, lectures on crop models as DSSAT, WOFOST, CROPSYST, SWAP and others will be given in Vienna as well.

The Course Program and all the AGRIDEMA details are available at www.agridema.com

Several potential "users" of these tools, coming from Europe and the Mediterranean countries, will attend the courses.

A number of "Pilot Applications" will be conducted during 2006 by the "users" connected to AGRIDEMA, using the climate and crop-growth modelling tools learned in Vienna. The results of such application assessments will be shown in an international workshop, to be held in Valladolid, Spain, in 2007.

As most of you surely know, there is an important gap between the "State of the Art" of climate and crop-growth simulation models and their "State of Application". AGRIDEMA is just trying to reduce this gap, encouraging model applications and divulgating these tools among the agricultural research community. Therefore, you are invited to visit the AGRIDEMA web, to join to our email-list [log in to unmask], as well as to make any suggestion to [log in to unmask]

Thanks in advance for your cooperation,
