Dear Colleague:

This is the second announcement and call for papers (see below) for the 7th International Conference on Functional – Structural Plant Models (FSPM2013) June 9-14, 2013 in Saariselkä, Finland. Paper submission and Registration are now open. You are warmly welcome to attend.

Please visit at http://www.metla.fi/fspm2013 for further information, paper submission and registration.

Looking forward to meeting you at FSPM2013.

Risto Sievänen
Chair of FSPM2013

PS1. I apologize for possible cross-posting.
PS2. Feel free to distribute this announcement.

The functional-structural plant models (FSPMs) address the complex interaction between plant architecture and biological and physical processes driving plant production and development. They combine plant architecture, molecular genetics, plant physiology, and environmental influences with computer science and mathematics. They have been applied e.g. in agricultural sciences, horticulture, forest ecology, remote sensing and analysis of plant morphogenesis. We call abstracts on the following themes, but do not exclude any topic useful for development of functional-structural plant models:

Methods for functional-structural models
- model structures, modelling software, parametrisation, model validation

Plant architecture models
- techniques for imaging, measurement and modelling

Tissue-level modelling
- molecular genetics of plant development, hormonal signals and development, meristem functions and structure

Organ-level modelling
- resource acquisition processes, autonomy of plant modules, formation of complex structures

Plant-level modelling
- biomechanics and biophysics, plant-environment interactions, microbial symbioses, transport processes, biomass partitioning

Nutrients in plants
- Roots and nutrient acquisition, nutrient transport, nutrient cycling within a plant, nutrient partitioning

Plant community level modelling
- plant community interactions, plant-animal interactions, competition and facilitation in plant communities

Applications
- crop modelling, tree and forest stand models, plant physiology and ecology, plant phenotyping

Paper submission
Extended abstracts of oral presentations (3 pages) and abstracts of posters (1 page) are solicited. All abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the International Programme Committee. All accepted abstracts will be included in the conference proceedings.

We will be able to accomodate ca. 50 oral presentations. Number of posters will not be restricted. Tentatively, FSPM2013 is divided into eight sessions defined by above themes. The session structure will be modified to reflect the abstracts submitted.

Special issue of Annals of Botany
Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to submit a full paper to the FSPM2013 special issue of Annals of Botany. The full papers will be submitted to the normal peer-review of Annals of Botany.

Important dates
- Deadline for abstract submission is 11 January 2013
- Acceptance notification of abstracts in early March 2013
- Submission of revised abstracts in early April 2013
