Redcoats,

If you drive to campus and experienced difficulty regarding class attendance this morning, please forward the message below to the appropriate faculty. If you continue to have problems after sharing this, please be in touch with me as soon as possible (do not wait!).

To Concerned Faculty:

Please be advised that the actual arrival time of Redcoat Band students to campus was delayed substantially from the time predicted in my original communication by factors beyond our control. Circumstances of the team’s victory (e.g., mandatory trophy presentation, delayed fan egress, obligations of groups with whom we are required to travel) delayed the band’s return to their hotel by about 90 minutes early Tuesday morning. This delayed the band’s departure time by the same duration later that morning because of driver off-duty hours required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. In addition, heavy traffic volumes south of Indianapolis and north of Nashville, delayed our return by an additional 90 minutes. Law enforcement escorts for long-haul bus travel are not currently being included in our travel resources.

After arriving on campus at 1:05 am today (Wednesday, January 15), most students would not have been able to reach their sleeping quarters until at least 2:00 am. While we forcefully encourage Redcoat students to attend classes immediately after travel, several students who drive to campus have expressed safety concerns about travel to early morning activities today. Being in class despite fatigue is an expectation we have of our students. We also respect genuine safety concerns that result from their service to the institution. Please consider excusing students who share these concerns with you, and don’t hesitate to reach out should you require further clarification.

Many thanks,

Brett Bawcum
