PEABODY AWARDS CEREMONY TO AIR ON GPTV:
For the first time in the program's 60-year history, the Peabody
Awards presentation ceremony will air on television. Georgia Public
Television will broadcast the 59th Peabody Awards on Aug. 23 at 8
p.m. The May ceremony was held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York and
was hosted by Matt Lauer, co-anchor of NBC's Today show.

FRESHMAN FALL SEMINARS 2000:
This fall the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the Honors
Program are offering a special opportunity to first-year students: an
additional  one-credit freshman seminar. These seminars provide an
opportunity for  students new to the university to become acquainted
with a senior faculty member and to learn something  about the
excitement of study and   research in a specific discipline and the
intellectual challenge of academic life at the University of Georgia.
