Hi Ken:
Although uncommon to rare, they are found along the entire Texas coast.
I had a friend recently find one live washed up on the beach in the High Island
area (which is little more than a sand bar on the edge of a swamp with a what
is left of a road... and it certainly isn't high).

I have found them at "City of" Matagorda (ie - beach at pre 1990's mouth of the
Colorado River) and St. Joseph Island.  They were not live, rather small and
where quite worn.  Since trawlers come to both ports they could have been
discards form off shore takes.
