FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE: 27 February 2003 CONTACT: David Limbach, University Theatre Publicity 706-583-0045 University Graduate Acting Company presents children s theatre production ATHENS The Graduate Acting Company of UGA will bring the community its second production of the year, Wiley and the Hairy Man. A children s theatre piece written by Susan Zeder, Wiley and the Hairy Man is a pleasantly skeery swamp tale for the child in all of us and plays March 8 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. as well as March 9 at noon in the Arena Theatre (room 151) located in the University s Fine Arts Building on the corner of Baldwin and Lumpkin. Tickets are $4 per big person and $2 per little person (children 12 and under). I think it is a great story about facing fear and overcoming it, said director and graduate performance student Kara Cantrell. When you believe in yourself, or go ahead when you might be frightened, you conquer your fears and find your own strength like Wiley does. Cantrell has chosen to approach the production as a play within a play. I wanted imagination to be the center of the production, said Cantrell. In this added twist, the actors serve as a company that originally planned to put on a different performance but upon discovering that their audience is composed of primarily children, the troupe decides to perform a show better suited to children.
