"Scenes from the X-Ray Cafe", a CD compilation supported in part by an ICE project grant, is now available at X-Ray Cafe and Lo Yo Yo Stuff Records, both located on Washington Street in downtown Athens. The CD is the first in a series to present multimedia projects emerging from the X-Ray scene, which has supported experimental works in every medium imaginable from UGA and Athens artists. The CD cover features artwork by Stephanie Dotson (MFA candidate,Printmaking)- her work can also be seen now at the London Gallery downtown. Details about a CD release performance and internet sales coming soon. --- 2. ASCI (Art and Science Collaborations, Inc.) has revamped its web site, <http:// www.asci.org>. ICE has an institutional membership to ASCI. Mark Callahan will be giving a short presentation on ICE and net.art as part of the Digital Brown Bag series at the New Media Institute this Wednesday at 12:20. The DBB is a weekly gathering of UGA students, faculty and staff as well as local artists, businesses and government officials who explore new media technologies, issues, and applications. Mathematics and Visualization, May 17 - June 18, 2004 at the University of Georgia. Stipends of $1500 (plus dorm and meals) or $2250 will be awarded to U.S. citizens and permanent residents for participation in this 5-week summer program. The program will pair art and math students to think about the linkages between mathematics and the visual arts. Themes of the program include geometry, symmetry, computer simulations, and understanding space and time. While the program includes study in both mathematics and the arts, the primary focus of the program will be the completion of collaborative artwork involving or illustrating modern mathematics. The program is open to all art majors, as well as math, physics, and computer science majors. Sculpture, scientific illustration, and digital media majors may be particularly interested in this project.
