In my experience S. hirsutum is a species of the woods & occasionally of the edges of woods. And, as Harry stated, it is never abundant. I would be very very surprised to find it on a lawn by a pond at an airport. I have shells of juvenile Stenotrema from Maryland & will be glad to do comparisons.
