Do you think they are painted?  They must do a pretty good job.  The Conus gloriamaris would hardly seem worth the effort as it is already damaged. The Cypraea valentia certainly is remarkably dark, more so than any specimen I've ever seen.
 
I have to say if true, they really know their work.
