I have seen bivalve shells used as percussion by dancers in contemporary
Tahitian dance performances - similar to the use of coconut half-shells -
to rap out rhythyms, either by single dancers or by one dancer rapping
their shell against that of another dancer while moving in intricate
formations.

I don't know how "traditional" this is.
