A colleague has given me a freshwater shell he collected dead on the Michigan shore of Lake Michigan in 1962 in shallow water. He can't recall where. It's on my web site, http://www.oglethorpe.edu/faculty/%7Ej%5Fcramer/ ; click on "shells." It's a rather heavy shell with large, strong cardinal teeth. I think it's an elliptio complanata but the shape doesn't fit the pictures I have of that species very well. It does not have a posterior ridge, more like several week ones. Is the ID just obvious to anyone? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [log in to unmask] - a forum for informal discussions on molluscs To leave this list, click on the following web link: http://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=conch-l&A=1 Type your email address and name in the appropriate box and click leave the list. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
