Way off the thread: (Apologies to the moderators) Richard Dawkins also wrote in 'Climbing Mount Improbable' about two other animals that I know reasonably well from here (Siargao Island, Philippines) - Syllarus (shovelnosed lobster) that evolved to grow its tail on its head - Colugo - 'flying lemur' (but not a lemur all - something very different). They don't fly, they glide, and astonishingly well. I have seen one glide 100 mtrs, and another, carrying its baby underneath, glide for 50 mtrs Go out and buy the book! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [log in to unmask] - a forum for informal discussions on molluscs To leave this list, click on the following web link: http://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=conch-l&A=1 Type your email address and name in the appropriate box and click leave the list. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
