Greetings from the International Student Life Office! This is a special announcement regarding the International Tax Assistance Program for Spring 2014.

Welcome to Tax Season 2014! We are excited to assist non-resident international students with filing their 2013 tax paperwork.

Attached to this email are three documents: One is a welcome letter that gives overall information about Tax Season 2014. The second is a brochure that outlines, in very specific detail, the tax assistance process for Tax Season 2014. All current UGA international students should also be receiving the brochure in their mail over the next few weeks. The third document is the 2013 GA 500 form which you will need to print and bring to the tax workshop; ISL staff and the 2014 Tax Team will assist you with filling out this document.

Please begin the tax filing process by carefully reading over the attached materials. GLACIER Tax Prep software is the only software that should be used to complete your non-resident tax paperwork. This software is available to UGA students and scholars on an F-1 or J-1 visa only. In-person tax assistance for Georgia state taxes is available to F-1 or J-1 students only.

If you have carefully read over our brochure and have further questions, please contact us at [log in to unmask]. GLACIER Tax Prep software is provided by International Student Life with additional support from the Office of International Education.

***Important note about the GA 500 Form: The Georgia Department of Revenue is not printing copies of the GA 500 Form this year. If you attend an ISL Tax Workshop, please print your own copy of the GA 500 Form and bring it to the workshop with you. ISL and the 2014 Tax Team will help you fill out the form at the workshop. You can find the correct GA 500 Form attached to this email or via this link: https://etax.dor.ga.gov/inctax/2013_forms/TSD_Individual_Income_Tax-Return_500-2013.pdf.

***Important note about the ITIN: Please do not file your federal forms without an ITIN. The IRS has changed the ITIN application this year, so read this information carefully. If you are not eligible for a Social Security Number, you might need to apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). More information about how to apply for an ITIN is available on our website (http://isl.uga.edu). Please contact [log in to unmask] if you have questions about the ITIN or the ITIN application process.

We look forward to assisting you this tax season!

Kind regards,
ISL Staff

NOTE: Filing federal income tax forms is the personal responsibility of each international student and scholar. Staff members and volunteers in the ISL Office have been trained as tax assistance volunteers through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program (http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Free-Tax-Return-Preparation-for-You-by-Volunteers). ISL has developed this service to help you meet your tax filing obligations. Please be aware that you are ultimately responsible for the accuracy of your income tax returns.
