FOSSIL MOLLUSCAN PAPERS IN MEMORY OF LOUELLA R. SAUL, 2022

Western Society of Malacologists, 55th annual meeting

Pasadena City College, Pasadena, CA

June 23rd-26th, 2022

Abstracts and/or posters for the meeting session Fossil Molluscan Papers in Memory of LouElla R. Saul, 2022 are now being accepted as part of the 55th annual meeting of the Western Society of Malacologists to be held at Pasadena City College, Pasadena, California on Saturday, June 25th, 2022.  LouElla was a leader in Cretaceous fossil molluscan research in the western United States, especially those groups from California and Baja California, México and her passing in June of 2021 has left a huge void. She generously shared her vast knowledge of paleontology with colleagues, students, professionals, and amateurs alike.  In her honor we invite all interested paleontologists and neontologists with an interest in fossil mollusks to participate in this memorial session. Topics may include any local, regional, or worldwide fossil molluscan subject including (but not limited to) biostratigraphy, systematics, paleobiogeography, paleoclimatology, or paleoecology. There will also be a special presentation in her honor by Lindsey T. Groves (LACM) or Richard L. Squires (ex CSUN, LACMIP associate).

Talks will be limited to ten minutes plus five minutes for Q&A.  Please submit abstract (with length limited to 350 words including title and authors) in Times New Roman, 12 pt. as a .doc or .docx.  Abstracts should include:

*Title: Concise and descriptive, bold font left justified

*Author(s): Last name first, followed by initials, presenting author underlined, plain font, left justified

*Author(s) affiliation: Include full postal address and email for all authors, italics, left justified

*Main body: Use standard scientific English, avoid contractions, plain font, left justified

*References: Author(s), year, title, journal (not abbreviated), volume, inclusive pages

Posters, which will be exhibited during the session, should not be larger than 40 x 30 inches

The closing date for abstracts is Sunday, May 1, 2022.  Formatted abstracts should be sent to Lindsey T. Groves [log in to unmask] and note in the subject line “WSM abstract memorial session [your last name].”  WSM membership is not required for presenting an abstract and/or poster but attending authors must register for the meeting (details upcoming). Please feel free to share this announcement with colleagues, students, and anyone interested in fossil mollusk research.

Details on registration for the WSM 55th Annual Meeting and abstract submissions on other topics outside this session will soon be provided via the WSM website (http://westernsocietymalacology.org/). Please direct general meeting questions to WSM president Mike Vendrasco [log in to unmask]

As of this posting, the WSM is planning on a live meeting in 2022. However, if Covid-19 infection, hospitalization and death rates increase significantly, there could be a switch to a fully online meeting. WSM and/or Pasadena City College may require proof of vaccinations for those wishing to participate.  Please stay tuned for more information.  We hope to see you there.

Aloha,

Lindsey
