Postdoctoral Research Associate Position on High-throughput Crop Phenotyping and Data Modeling

Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center at Beaumont is seeking candidates for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate on high-throughput crop phenotyping and data modeling. This multi-year, limited-term position is funded by USDA NIFA and is available immediately. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds and satisfactory performance, up to a maximum of three years. The appointment will be supervised jointly by Drs. Yubin Yang, Stanley Omar Samonte, Fugen Dou, Lloyd T. Wilson, and Tanumoy Bera.

The candidate will be involved in a research project on developing a Digital Rice Selection System that integrates UAV imaging, machine learning, ground-truthing of crop phenotypic and architectural traits, data modeling, and multi-trait decision-making. The candidate will be involved in major aspects of this project, including planting and management of field experiments, ground-truth data collection, data analysis and modeling, and development of the integrated Digital Rice Selection System as well as preparation of manuscripts for publication and research proposal writing. A high level of productivity for peer-reviewed publications is expected. The candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with a team of scientists in agronomics, soil and plant nutrition, plant breeding, crop and cropping system modeling, and computer science.

The minimum qualifications are an earned Ph.D. in soil science, agronomy, biology, or a similar field from an accredited institution. Candidates should have a strong interest in digital agriculture research. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of an integrated team, possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and possess a high level of analytical, statistical, organizational, and planning skills. A valid Texas Driver's License is required. The candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the U.S. by the start date and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
