Research Associate (f/m/d)

Institute for Strategies and Technology Assessment - based in Kleinmachnow

Your responsibilities
Participation in the project "Development of digital prognosis models and decision support systems in plant protection for the assessment of infestations of insect pests in oil seed rape, sugar beet and maize" (EntoProg).

·       design and development of forecast models for insect pests in oil seed rape, sugar beet and maize;

·       development of a Decision Support System (DSS) for a practical application of the models;

·       application of statistical and machine-learning methods for model testing, optimization and validation;

·       close collaboration with project partners on model development, data collection, and model deployment;

·       documentation and presentation of concepts and project results in German and English;

·       publication of results in national and international journals.

Your profile

·       MSc or diploma in agriculture, forestry, environmental sciences or a comparable discipline with a focus on data analysis and modelling in the fields of agriculture and/or environment;

·       experience in statistical analysis and modelling, preferably in the field of ecology and environment;

·       knowledge of pests and diseases, agricultural production and pest management would be an advantage;

·       hands-on experience with statistical/modelling software, for example, R, Python;

·       very good communication and organizational skills, flexibility and ability to work in a team;

·       very good fluency in German, both spoken and written is obligatory (C1 or higher).

We offer

·       a varied, challenging and interesting job in an international working environment;

·       support towards further development of skills necessary for the position;

·       a full-time position with 39.0 hours per week, initially limited until December 31, 2024, to work on a third-party funded project. Various forms of part-time employment are possible in principle. The employment relationship will be based on the Collective Agreement for the Public Service East (TVöD-Ost). Option of an extension until October 31, 2026, subject to the continued provision of funds.

·       remuneration according to salary group E 13 TVöD if you have the required qualifications and skills;

·       an entry as early as possible.
