POSITION DESCRIPTION We are seeking highly motivated individual to join our team of University of California Merced and University of California Cooperative Extension researchers to lead the project on assessing impacts of climate change on agriculture in Ventura County and developing data-driven tools and resources that will help inform future decisions on actions to mitigate impacts of climate change in Ventura County. The postdoctoral scholar will work under direct supervision of Dr. Tapan Pathak and Dr. Annemiek Schilder and collaborate with the University of California Cooperative Extension academics in Ventura County. Specific responsibilities include, (i) synthesize climate change impacts on Ventura County agriculture and identify critical research needs, (ii) quantify climate change impacts on crops and agricultural pests, (iii) develop data-driven, web-based crop-specific agroclimate decision support using various weather and climate data streams including National Weather Services, CIMIS stations, PRISM, and downscaled climate change projections, and (iv) reporting research results in the form of journal publications and conference presentations. A successful candidate will share results with variety of agricultural industry stakeholders such as growers, the Farm Bureau, the County Agricultural Commissioner, and other relevant individuals and organizations to ensure that project outputs and outcomes are addressing stakeholder needs. Basic qualifications An earned Ph.D. in agricultural engineering, climate science, meteorology, irrigation, agronomy, crop sciences, data science, environmental science, or closely related field is required at the time of appointment. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
