Ag Teachers

Happy State Degree application week! I hope that as Friday, March 1, inches closer, you are helping students putting the finishing touches on their state FFA degree and state star applications. Remember that all state FFA degree and state Star applications must be submitted through the online application manager. The steps to follow for online submission are listed below. In order to be ready for submission, an application must have all signatures and a PDF version with a version number must have been generated.

The process DOES NOT stop when your student “saves” their application. Once a state degree application is completed, you (the advisor) must follow the steps below in order for the application to be submitted for review.

1. Login to your Georgia AgEd account.
2. Look at the left side menu and select the “Go To Degree/Application Manager” link in the bottom left side.
3. On your Application Manager page, click the green button “Submission Lists and Feedback” that is right in the middle of the page.
4. On the page showing all possible submission lists, look at the bottom for the “Georgia FFA State Degree” box. Click the “Edit List” button to the right of the correct title.
5. In order to be ready to submit, all state degree applications from your chapter must have all signatures and have been saved and generated as PDF files with a version number. You can enter that version number in the empty box and click the “By Version Number” button, OR, click the Browse button and identify the applications (one at a time) that you want to add to the submission list.

To submit a State Star application, a student must complete the state FFA degree application AND the star application! Be sure that your student creates a “Generic Chapter/GH/State Star” application and then selects the correct information on the Cover and Setup page (State and correct Star category). To submit state star applications, the steps from above are similar. Follow steps 1 -3 identically from above. Then…

5. In order to be ready to submit, all state degree applications from your chapter must have all requirements on the checklist and have been saved and generated as PDF files with a version number. You can enter that version number in the empty box and click the “By Version Number” button, OR, click the Browse button and identify the applications (one at a time) that you want to add to the submission list.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
• It is important to remember that students should have a MyFFA account tied to their active FFA membership ID in order to access the Application Manager and create, then work on and submit, a state degree application. NOTE: If your chapter is a subscriber to the AET for record keeping purposes, your students can access their Application Manager through their AET profile, but I still recommend the students having an established MyFFA account.
• Keep the “A” in SAE. While you as the advisor can determine what you accept as an SAE for local credit, in order to qualify for an award or degree, a student’s SAE must be agricultural in nature. Projects that are not agricultural in nature (i.e. residential or personal mechanic or food preparation) will not be accepted for the state FFA degree.
• Raising and exhibiting livestock is an Entrepreneurship SAE. Students cannot count Placement hours with a project that they own.
• Community Service – In order to qualify for community service, a student must be providing service to a group/organization/cause of which they are not a part. Volunteering at the church or FFA chapter where you are a member is not community service. Who was served?

Have a great rest of your week.
