Muriel was a regular presence at WAML meetings when I worked in California in the 1980s and 1990s.  She stood out for her active interest in serving her community, though she did not have a large collection.  She looked for pragmatic solutions.  She had a strong interest in the historical mapping of San Diego.  It was a pleasure to talk to her at many WAML meetings.

Subject: Sad news about Muriel Strickland

Muriel Strickland passed away in San Diego at age 98 on February 13, 2024. Muriel was a long-time member of WAML and of the Special Library Association Geography and Map Section. She worked in the map collection at San Diego State, and after she retired, she volunteered for years in the map collection at the San Diego History Center. Muriel had also lived in British Columbia and was originally from England. In accordance with Muriel’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service. More information to follow.
