There's an interesting FaceBook group called "Nautilus, the Blog," whose members would be able to answer these questions from field experience.

External.

She must not have ever visited local markets, as in Fiji and Vanuatu. We saw many species of mollusks there for sale, for food.

Hi listers, I was listening to a speaker tonight and she made the statement that the shells from the w. Pacific, sold here, were killed for their shells. I could not let that pass, and explained that almost all the shells brought here had been eaten. I like her so that is about it, but then she said the chambered Nautilus is caught for its shell. I find it hard to believe they also would not be eaten, but I do not know that for sure. Does anyone out there know if the Chambered Nautilus animal is eaten.
I do know Tridacna's are eaten, no matter that the shells are left behind or not. But what of the Nautilus??

Thanks for any answers.
