The Map Curators’ Group (MCG) of the British Cartographic Society will hold its Annual Workshop online on the afternoons of Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th September 2024.

MCG is for anyone interested in using and sharing maps, bound together by an interest in curating, maintaining, and sharing our map collections. Our annual workshops offer the opportunity to share expertise and learn from each other.

The MCG workshop theme will be:

Is it a map? Collecting and preserving unconventional formats.

From art works, through globes and relief models to maps in virtual realities there are challenges to collecting, preserving and making available geographic information contained in unconventional formats. This workshop will explore some of these challenges.

The organisers are calling for proposals for presentations to be given at the Workshop, on the themes:

· Collecting

· Conserving

· Preserving

· Providing access

For any of the following:

· Minecraft maps and other geographic virtual realities

· Geographic information systems

· Relief models

· Globes

· Wall maps

· Map Ephemera

· Artists’ maps

· Any other subject on the theme of ‘Is it a map?’

Speakers will receive free registration to the Workshop.

Presentations should last 20 minutes and be able to be shared virtually on Zoom.

We will also ask for a 500-word summary and image to be shared in our newsletter Cartographiti.

Please contact the MCG Convener Paula Williams with your proposal for consideration, by 30th April 2024.
