Good morning all,
I am the archivist for a repository at ASU (not part of the library). I have lots of maps/drawings/sketches of archaeological sites. These are original, hand drawn materials. We are moving buildings and I’ve been asked to move the maps
myself with my student workers. We have trucks so we’re fine taking apart and moving the map cases. However, I’m trying to work out how to move the more delicate maps. We moved a stack of smaller cases where I kept the USGS topo maps in the drawers. We had
to turn the drawers at a 45 degree angle to get them through the doors so I used foam board and stretch wrap to stabilize the maps.
However, I am now faced with larger drawers and more delicate maps. I’m moving them about 4 miles so I can’t just put them on a cart. There are about 25 drawers of maps. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get them from point A
to point B? I’ve considered laying down the seats in my suv and transporting them that way but I don’t even have a good way to get them from our current location on the 2nd floor to my car.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
