----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Addendum: most of Indonesia was flown by a Canadian firm in the 1970's using side-looking radar. Report in Journal of Remote Sensing (?) detailed the project was undertaken because ground survey teams kept disappearing on various islands (Jay Rockefeller suffered a similar fate about the same time, probably in Indonesia). I contacted the Canadian company--whose name I've forgotten--and was told they held the negatives but were contractually forbidden from selling any until the Indonesian govt. released them, at which time they would contact me. Never heard any more. [log in to unmask] ----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Mary Anne, Though your request was to respond to you personally I think that others may profit from this information, so I put it on the list. As most aerial photographs are flown for military surveys, or at least scrutenized by them for sensitive military data, you usually can contact best the military survey in question. Unfortunately for Indonesia I only know the name: Bakosurtanal (Badan Koordinasi Survey dan Pemetaan [National Institute for mapping and inventory of natural resources]) in Cibinong (close to Jakarta). From an article in a 1993 issue of the "Kartografisch Tijdschrift" [Cartographic Journal] I know that there are maps (1:25,000 and 1:50,000) for Jawa and Bali, but from pre-colonial times. Under the TRANS-V programme aerial photos were taken of 520,000 sq.km, mainly in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Sumatra and Eastern Timor.
