Hi! We have a patron looking for a plot of land from a 1790 land sale
described as being on Hays Creek opposite Mt. Miserable Island. Hays
Creek wasn't a problem to find--assuming it is the same one referred to
in her notes--it's near Brownsburg. We have not been able to find
Mt. Miserable Island (what a weird name). Could someone in that neck
of the woods or with better resources than we have try to track this
down for us. Thanks!

          Denise,
According to a map of Rockbridge county published by the Roanoke
Valley Historical Society, Mt. Miserable Island also goes by the
name Bunkin Hill. Bunkin Hill is located on the southeast corner
of the junction of the North Rfver and Hays Creek. Hope this info
is 1) helpful and 2) correct Ed Redmond LC G M eredmond
