Created 1 March 1993, the primary purpose is to allow users to find GIS (Geographic Information System) files among our rather extensive collection of geographic data. The gopher operates solely as an index. This means that you will not be able to retrieve GIS files directly through the gopher system. However, if you wish to browse the database or you are interested in finding particular GIS data, this is the best place to start. If you are interested in obtaining GIS data, we recommend that you first use the gopher to identify the particular files that you want. Once you have identified the files, please fill out our request form (if you do not have accounts on fsl machines) and email it to: [log in to unmask] When the available data are ready for transfer, you will receive a confirmation of the name of your file and the date it can be accessed in an anonymous ftp area for downloading. We anticipate data being available within 1 - 2 working days of your request, although we may give priority to financial benefactors.
