----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Greetings, Our Map Collection finally was able to convince our library to get a large-format copier. We are now renting a used (high milage) Xerox 2510 copying machine. We are charging $5.00 per copy regardless of size. My original intentions of getting a oversize copier was to provide our library patrons a way of getting copies of maps that are in our "historical collection" which are no longer available for purchase, or out of print, ie, early editions of USGS quads of Hawaii, and AMS topos of the Pacific, Asia, and Europe. For these patrons, the copier has been a blessing - no more using our 11"x17" copier and having to use tape to piece them together. They do not mind paying the $5 for these unpurchaseable maps. To them, it's a great deal! Another group of people that have discovered our machine are the "yachties" that frequent our islands. They come in planning trips all over the Pacific and gladly pay the $5 for copies of NOS and DMA charts. We decided on the $5 charge taking to account the number of maps that we estimated we would copy/month, the local going rate at copy service centers, rental charge of the machine, and costs for the paper, toner and service contract. Our intentions were to break even (which we are). Aloha, Ross Togashi University of Hawaii at Manoa Hamilton Library mmm...spamburgers
