----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Well, now that I have signed back on to MAPS-L and am getting to the point where I have just about sorted out all of the papers, notes, messages, pamphlet s, and other memorabilia from the Atlanta Conference, I thought I would let all of you fellow maps-lers that I will be using this medium to stay in touch with SLA folks and anyone else interested as my year of Chair of the G&M Division progresses. Right now I am interested in any and all comments regarding the quality/quantit y of programming at the Atlanta Conference from those of you who attended. Specific suggestions would be most welcome as I can pass them on to Elaine and Alice to use for program planning for Montreal. Feel free to post your comments either publicly or privately to me, and also, don't be shy about telling me the things you didn't like as well as those that you did. I am also going to take this opportunity to put in a plug for the future of the G&M Division right now. All of you G&M folk out there, please consider running for office for next year as we (the Nominating Committee in particular) will be making contacts in the very near future. As most of you know by now we had a very difficult time in finding candidates for the offices of Chair-elect and Treasurer this past year, in fact both positions were filled by folks willing to be nominated from the floor at this year's Business Meeting! The future and solvency of the G&M Division depends solely on members willing to put in the time and effort as officers, Committee Chairs, and committee members to guide the Division in the near and far future. If you are interested in running for the offices of Chair-elect or Secretary, or in becoming a Committee Chair or member, and most importantly at this point as editor or co-editor of the G&M Division's _Bulletin_, please contact me or any other Division officer (Alice Hudson, Elaine Clement, Marsha Selmer, Al Herman, or Jim Gillispie) as soon as possible! By the way, look for a "G&M Division conference wrap-up" in the summer issue of SLA's _Specialist_, I sent in the copy this past Friday. I will also be sending this on to Joanne Perry to be published in the Bulletin for, hopefully, wider coverage (and because I am not certain the editor(s) of the _Specialist_ will have enough room to publish the entire report). I look forward to hearing from of you in the coming days and weeks! Respectfully, Mr. Paige G. Andrew Chair, Geography and Map Division, SLA Mr. Paige G.
