----------------------------Original message---------------------------- MAP LIBRARIAN, ARTHUR LAKES LIBRARY COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES The Arthur Lakes Library, Colorado School of Mines, invites applications for the position of Map Librarian. The Map Collection consists of approximately 170,000 map sheets, 6,300 atlases and monographs, 12,000 aerial photographs and other cartographic material in all formats. About 50% of its maps are received through the Federal Depository Program. This position manages the Map Section, including supervision of one 0.5 FTE classified employee and student assistants. Duties include reference work, bibliographic instruction, collection development, maintaining statistics, and map cataloging. Also included is reference assistance in government publications and general reference in coordination with the Government Publications Librarian and the Head of Reference. Participates on campus and professional committees. Work may include evening and weekend hours. Qualifications: REQUIRED: M.L.S. or equivalent degree from ALA-accredited program; excellent oral and written communications skills; commitment to providing responsive and innovative public service to a diverse clientele; potential for professional development. DESIRED: One year of education or experience with maps; education or experience with government publications; knowledge of automated library systems; knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) and other emerging technologies pertinent to mapping; knowledge of preservation techniques appropriate for maps; ability to train and supervise; interest in grant writing and professional/scholarly activity.
