JOB TITLE: SOURCE ACQUISITION SPECIALIST JOB SUMMARY: Research and investigate source availability for collection of attributes in Etak map products through the telephone and personal visits to data providers. Acquire the source material within budgetary guidelines. Evaluate source material and disseminate information about acquisitions including participating in interdepartmental project management. Conduct preliminary cataloging. QUALIFICATIONS ABILITIES: Excellent verbal and written communication. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to interpret maps and aerial photography. Knowledge of map projections, scales and coordinate systems. Ability to work independently under limited supervision. Ability to travel and do field work when required. Good interpersonal skills. EDUCATION: BA or BS preferably in either History, Geography, Economics, or other liberal art. Knowledge of a foreign language helpful. EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3-5 years research experience and/or library background. Excellent computer skills, including relational database experience (Informix preferred). Supervisory experience helpful. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Call and correspond with vendors, public agencies, and other potential keepers of information. Order and receive source material. Document research process. Prepare source material for cataloging and hand-over. Track expenses. Balance multiple priorities. Analyze cost/benefit appropriateness of source material for particular process/purpose. Communicate with other departments concerning acquisition of sources. Negotiate agreements with data providers and document them with the assistance of Etak Corporate Counsel when necessary. Visit potential data providers, represent Etak, and give presentations. Proactively research new potential source material. Disseminate knowledge to appropriate decision makers.
