I have an HP Deskjet 855C at home which I use for just about everything
(word processing, addressing envelopes, printing color pictures, etc.)
While I have not used it with a GIS per se, I have used it to print maps
from the Rand McNally Trip Maker 96 and Street Finder 96 programs. The
output quality is great, the print speed is acceptable (text is much faster
than graphics), and the price was right ($500). If you decide to buy one,
make sure you get the 855C, not the 850C. As I understand it, they are
almost identical except that the 855C is faster at some tasks. BTW, I use
the printer with a 100 MHz Pentium system running Windows 95.

Best wishes,
Gary Rasmussen
