----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Re: request for materials on colonial surveyors I just finished reading "Surveyors and statesmen: land measuring in colonial Virginia" by Sarah S. Hughes. published by Virginia Surveyors Foundation : Virginia Association of Surveyors, Richmond, VA c1979. The book looks at the technical aspects and the political aspects (which had a profound effect). Many of the Surveyors mentioned worked in other states/colonies, and of course, back then Virginia covered a lot of territory. Dry reading at times, but "must" reading on this topic. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Bill Fawcett [log in to unmask] James Madison University adm_wfawcett@jmuvax (bitnet) 821 S.
