The University of Kentucky, Lexington, is hosting a SOLINET workshop
entitled "Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Libraries" on Friday, June
21st.  This workshop is designed to introduce GIS to reference and documents
librarians who have had little or no experience with maps.  Participants
will review basic map concepts and gain an understanding of the technical
concepts of GIS and spatial digital data, e.g. TIGER (U.S. Census) data.
The primary goal of the workshop is to introduce librarians to ArcView and
allow for a hands-on workshop.
 
Instructors are Jim Minton, Associate Prof. and Head of the Cartographic
Information Center at the University of Tennessee and Dr. Joanne Logan,
Associate Prof. of Plant & Soil Science at the University of Tennessee.
 
Cost is $155 for SOLINET members and $225 for non-SOLINET & FEDLINK.
