----------------------------Original message---------------------------- A Library committe here is looking at alternatives to keeping a large format (engineering) copier on site and the major expense of supporting this piece of equipment. They are looking into sending original maps/charts out to a local vendor for this type of copying. Aside from the obvious inconvenience to library users who would have to wait for copies that now can be produced in a matter of minutes, what other issues can anyone think of? I know that Kinkos, for example, charges about a buck a square foot, and the fee here is presently only $4 - $5 for a copy irregardless of size, so that's one point. What about couriers? Does the copy service handle your originals with care? Has anything been lost in the shuffle? What would you advise? Send stuff out for copying or do it in-house yourself if you had an engineering copier? Thanks. - Paul Leverenz Scripps Institution of Oceanography Library
