----------------------------Original message---------------------------- AUTO-CARTO 13 9-10 April 1997, Seattle, Washington Deadline for Paper Proposals: 6 September 1996 Proposals accepted by email ([log in to unmask]) or using the Proposal Form web page (http://weber.u.washington.edu/~autoc13/). ==================================================================== Thirteenth International Symposium on Computer-Assisted Cartography will occur inside the ACSM-ASPRS-RT Annual Convention. This event will provide a forum for research papers on advances in cartography and GIS, for discussion of research directions, and for interaction with advanced techniques of visual display. AUTO-CARTO 13 will place most paper sessions in a plenary track, with full provision of interactive graphics. Some parallel sessions may be organized. Paper proposals may address any topic related to research advances in Cartography and GIS, with particular emphasis on the following: Cartographic Generalization Error in Geographic Databases Connection between Environmental Models and GIS New Paradigms for GIS Software Spatial Data Structures Temporal Analysis and Dynamic Visualization Society and GIS Proposal process: Proposals must provide sufficient information to describe the research problem,the methods of analysis and the nature or the innovative results to present. Length should not exceed 750 words. Paper proposals must be submitted by September 6, 1996. The Program Committee will review the proposals and offer tenative approval by 30 October 1996 to those that offer promise of interesting presentations and that fit the themes of the conference. Final approval depends on receipt of the final paper by 14 January 1997. The final review process will verify that the paper fits the original promise, but not engage in detailed editorial criticism. All papers will appear in the published proceedings volume of AUTO-CARTO 13. Student Competition The Cartography and Geographic Information Society (formerly the American Cartographic Association, a member organization of ACSM) has offered support for a student competition at AUTO-CARTO 13. Students currently enrolled in universities world-wide are encouraged to submit paper proposals identified for the student competition. Up to four finalists will be selected, and will be granted $200 to contribute to travel costs. A prize of $200 will be awarded by an awards jury. Proposals submitted to AUTO-CARTO 13 should not be submitted to ACSM/ASPRS/RT Proposal Format Please use our web-based Form when it is established (real soon now) OR send an email message to [log in to unmask] containing: proposed title list of authors WITH EMAIL ADDRESSES text of the proposal (not over 750 words) Paper submissions will be accepted at the regular address below, but the review process will be conducted by electronic means, so please use one of the methods above.
