----------------------------Original message---------------------------- You probably got an answer already (I was on holiday and have just read your message). Saxton maps were copied by William Hole and William Kip for an edition of Camden and there were three editions of most counties. You have seen the third state if it has a plate number. State 1 - Latin on reverse State 2 - no text and no plate no. (English text was separate) State 3 - plate no. The county of Bedford has not been covered cartobibliographically. For the best information use one of the books on other counties: the best for text info is probably Raymond Carroll's Lincolnshire; the best for illustrations is Devon by myself and Francis Bennett. A Saxton Kip will be sold for approx 100 pounds Sterling by a dealer. Kit Batten
