If possible, please confirm your approval for posting on MAPS-L with me at [log in to unmask] The Index and Carto-Bibliography of Maps, 1789-1969 is Part XIV of the CIS US Serial Set Index. Edited by Donna P. Koepp of the University of Kansas, it provides detailed access to more than 50,000 maps in the US Serial Set. (The Serial Set includes a wide variety of authoritative publications from the U.S. Congress and may be the single most valuable collection of American historical documents in existence.) The Index and Carto-Bibliography are a valuable record of the history of the United States, documenting the ways land was explored, settlements and cities built, Native Americans displaced, industry and commerce nurtured, wars fought, and transport by water, land, and rail engineered. Maps cover primarily the North American continent but include coverage of many other parts of the world as well, and are indexed individually by geographic areas and subjects, map titles, personal names, and corporate names. The Carto- Bibliography thoroughly annotates the subject matter and describes any special features of each map.
